Statement
My work explores the convergence between the contemporary and the classical, connecting various cultures and eras. Through layers and textures, I use techniques such as "unfinished art" and "pentimenti" to create pieces that require a deep and attentive look. My intention is for the viewer to engage in a process of discovery, revealing new meanings with each observation.

Andrea Velasco-Astete is an artist whose training and experience have been shaped through exposure to both classical and contemporary art references. Having lived in Lima, Malaga, and Miami, her work reflects a cultural and artistic syncretism. From an early age, her father introduced her to the world of art, exposing her to the work of artists like Tilsa, José Tola, and Gerardo Chávez. Initially influenced by contemporary figures such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Cy Twombly, her work possessed a Neo-Expressionist essence. However, as her training deepened, she began to integrate more classical elements, drawing inspiration from Hieronymus Bosch and Leonora Carrington. Her current work draws from a rich visual tradition, incorporating references to the history and culture of China, Japan, and Peru, as well as myths and folklore. Elements such as Incan textiles, Chinese ceramics, and Japanese Edo prints intertwine in her pieces. As a tattoo artist, she explores the traditional art of tattooing, merging styles and techniques. Her unique style is based on the use of "unfinished art" and "pentimenti," creating layers and perspectives that invite the viewer into constant and profound discovery.
